Joseph Smith said, “When persons manifest the least kindness and love to me, O what power it has over my mind. … The nearer we get to our Heavenly Father, the more are we disposed to look with compassion on perishing souls—[we feel that we want] to take them upon our shoulders and cast their sins behind our back… if you would have God have mercy on you, have mercy on one another.”
It is true that when you look at someone through the lens of God you have more compassion and understanding for that individual then if you view them through your mortal eyes. You have more patience, love, understanding, and forgiveness for those that hurt you. How does this relate to news writing?
News writing can promote respect and understanding for others by providing accurate information about different perspectives, cultures, and experiences. When writers present diverse viewpoints with empathy and fairness, readers are more likely to develop a deeper understanding of various issues and the people affected by them. Responsible newswriting can help combat stereotypes and prejudice by highlighting human experiences. God would want us to view others in this light and show them understanding and courtesy as we interact with others.
